Probable Cause: Under Investigation

Abstract:  

Comair Flight 5191, a CRJ-100, flying between Lexington, KY and Atlanta, Georgia crashed under unknown circumstances shortly after departing the Lexington Bluegrass Airport (KLEX). There was a post impact fire which destroyed the aircraft. Initial findings indicate that the aircraft departed from a runway other than that which was assigned by air traffic control, and of inadequate length to achieve flight. 50 passengers on board, 49 fatalities, 1 serious injury. This accident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
